In Response to COVID-19

As the effects of COVID-19 continue to spread, they are affecting the most vulnerable populations, including immigrants and people of color, which make up a large percentage of The Dudley Village’s population. Mortality, unemployment, and poverty are all expected to get worse in our community with today’s circumstances.

DSNI is implementing the following strategies in response to COVID-19:

  1. Phone banking: Reaching out to as many residents as possible, our community organizers are working tirelessly to check-in with members of our community to hear about their needs and provide access to public and private resources. We will expand these efforts by providing stipends to recently unemployed residents who can join our phone banking efforts. During each call, residents will be asked 3-4 questions to help us better understand the need and strengthen our response.

  2. Resource list through district-wide mailing: Understanding that many of our residents may not have access to the internet or technology, we will mail each resident a list of resources available.

  3. Provide food and financial resources to the immigrant population: DSNI, in collaboration with 10 organizations across the city, was awarded $30,000 by the Boston Resiliency Fund. With these funds, DSNI will be working to provide food and financial resources to immigrants, including those that are undocumented, across Roxbury and North Dorchester.

As we work to reach as many residents as possible, through phone banking and mailers, we are looking for ways to recruit volunteers. Can you provide guidance through your network on ways to recruit volunteers that will reach out to residents in your district, along with sharing a request through your social media? Let us know and we would like to set up a meeting at your earliest convenience to discuss our response and opportunities for collaboration.

Please remember that DSNI is able to provide support at this time, so feel free to reach out to us for any help!
