Boston Farms CLT was founded in 2017 by their close partner organization, the Urban Farming Institute (UFI). UFI teaches people how to grow and distribute food locally to foster healthier residents, neighborhoods, and economies. Boston Farms CLT is the first of its kind, created to own and manage commercial farms for community benefit. Boston Farms CLT has developed and stewards one greenhouse and 4 working farm sites, and has one more farm in development in 2021. Contact Joy Gary / 857-220-7595 / joy@bostonfarms.org

Boston Neighborhood CLT works to address the effect of foreclosures and gentrification on communities of color in Mattapan, Dorchester and Roxbury using multiple strategies. BNCLT works to preserve scattered site housing, restore affordability and create community controlled housing in order to build a more stable and resilient neighborhood.  BNCLT owns and stewards 21 housing units, most recently closing on two 3-unit properties in Dorchester on May 3rd, 2021. BNCLT has received commitments from 3 home owners interested in donating their homes to the land trust. Contact Meridith Levy / mlevy@bnclt.org

Chinatown Community Land Trust works to preserve Boston’s Chinatown as both a neighborhood and a historic base for the Chinese community, particularly its working class, immigrant sector, in the face of a luxury housing boom that began in 2000. Chinatown CLT recently led and published Chinatown Master Plan 2020, acquired two historic row houses to preserve as 7 permanently affordable homeownership units, and negotiated to lease and steward the community’s only recreational park. They are preparing to launch a community-owned energy micro-grid, a Chinatown Immigrant History Trail, and are working to acquire other row houses, a lodging house, and commercial or mixed-use properties. Comunidades Enraizadas CLT at GreenRoots was created and is led by a group of Latino immigrants in Chelsea, the majority of whom are women and among those most challenged by housing instability.  Comunidades Enraizadas’ objective is to provide access to housing at a fair and reasonable price to low-income people, regardless of their migratory status, so that they may be owners of their own homes.  The organization’s goal in doing this is to root its community in place and to end displacement.  In 2021, Comunidades Enraizadas is developing bylaws to become an incorporated CLT. Dudley Neighbors, Inc. was established in 1988 and is the 2nd largest CLT in the country. DNI was formed to support the organizing and planning efforts of DSNI. Today, the nearly 32 acres of the CLT are home to 229 units affordable housing (96 homeownership, 77 cooperative units and 52 rental units), along with parks, gardens, orchards, a community greenhouse, and 7 affordable commercial units. DNI is building 9 more affordable homes in 2021-22 and is redeveloping a mixed-use affordable housing and affordable commercial building in Uphams Corner, Dorchester. Highland Park CLT was established in 2017 in response to generations of dialogue with the City of Boston on how to have development in the neighborhood support the community through job creation, environmental and food system health, and access to housing for generation family networks rather than outside developers. HPCLT has focused on expanding membership and supporting activities in the community they serve, and continues to push for CLT-control of City-held land. Somerville CLT promotes neighborhood stability and engagement through the creation and preservation of permanently affordable housing. SCLT was founded in 2019, and focused in its first year on building community awareness of and support for the CLT model, with great success.  In 2020, Somerville CLT worked with Grounded Solutions, a national CLT-capacity building network, and local CLT experts to draft a three year business plan to guide its efforts.
